Developed by - the developers of the first game - and published by, the game was released in 2001, and re-released in 2010 on. It was nominated for an interactive award for its which was composed. A browser-based game, Edge of Chaos Online, was created as part of the in late 2001. The view from inside the playership showing the virtual HUD. Edge of Chaos is set in the 24th century, 100 years after the first game, in an isolated part of space called the Badlands Cluster. The is far removed from Earth, the Core Systems, and their central governing body, the New Alliance; also, the Alliance government was in a state of near-collapse due to corruption and massive overspending. ![]() ![]() As a result, huge corporations step in to take control, and they rule quite tyrannically. The game begins with a video showing the murder of 12-year-old Cal Johnston's father by industrial heir Caleb Maas. The player then assumes the role of young Cal as he is instructed in space ship piloting by the digitized personality of Commonwealth Navy captain Jefferson Clay, a character familiar from the original. After getting used to basics of space flight, Clay guides Cal to the base of his space pirating grandmother. After some more practice missions, Cal encounters the infamous Caleb Maas. Trying to avenge his father, Cal ends up in prison instead. The story then fast-forwards 15 years showing a now-adult Cal Johnston with some of his fellow inmates escaping the prison space station, where the core begins. ![]() Upon returning to his grandmother's base, Cal begins to set up his own piracy organization. Other groups in Hoffer's Wake begin to notice his work, and as he advances in fame and fortune he learns more about the current situation affecting the Badlands. Independence War 44 MB Downloadable Demo (Via Gigex, 85 KB). Independence War Deluxe Edition Demo- This 60MB demo is big, but well worth it! Independence War II: The Edge of Chaos Action Theme- This is what I consider to be the climax of the music featured in the 30MB Quicktime trailer for Independence. For a long time, a group called the Marauders have been attacking at random—essentially terrorizing the people of the Cluster. Despite numerous attempts to run them down, the Badlands government and gangs have had no luck in stopping the attacks: the Marauders don't seem weakened even by major losses, and they don't seem to have any single base of operations. The player is soon given access to other systems in the Cluster, with the assignment to find help fighting the Marauders in Hoffer's Wake. Most are only too happy to lend ships, supplies, and personnel once their own Marauder problems are taken care of, and the Marauders are successfully driven from Hoffer's Wake before long. However even that loss didn't slow them down, and further investigation on Cal's part reveals that they have been maintaining their primary base in the Dante system, long abandoned and thought uninhabitable after the unstable binary star flooded the system with radiation and cut it off from outside travel. ![]() The Rebel Fleet, now very large and well-organized, mounts a successful assault—only to be nearly destroyed anyway when the Marauders receive help from the Maas Corporation, who started the Marauders to 'keep you peasants in line.' The Rebels can't hope to directly match Maas's forces, so they fall back and try to think of alternative strategies. They conclude that the most effective action would be to find help outside of the Badlands, so they attack and secure the Santa Romera Jump Accelerator, a highly advanced piece of technology that allows travel over significantly longer distances than even. Cal arrives in the system in the Gagarin Cluster to find much the same situation as in the Badlands: oppressive corporate rule, roving Marauders, and a desperate need for assistance. After working for a while, Cal receives a seemingly innocuous mission in which he is sent to spy on a number of corporate cruisers in the Gagarin Cluster. The story takes a sharp turn when, against Caleb Maas's wishes, corporate scientists activate an alien artifact that Cal himself stole for them, thinking to use it as some sort of weapon. The device goes out of control and begins to emit glowing red alien ships that eat (and thus destroy) any advanced power sources (such as ships) in their path; within days, the entire Gagarin Cluster is overrun. Cal and the fleet hold the aliens back from the Fomalhaut Jump Accelerator as refugees escape, then dash through at the last second and destroy the Accelerator, effectively isolating the Badlands indefinitely from the rest of human civilization. Cal remarks that they are safe from the aliens, but he's not sure about human civilization elsewhere. The gameplay is a mix of free movement in space and missions. In free play, Cal can act independently, move throughout the Hoffer's Wake system and eventually the entire Badlands Cluster, and steal cargo. Game missions allow the player to gain new weapons and ships, and contribute to the rebellions against the corporations that control the Badlands. Gameplay [ ] Base [ ] The game may only be saved when a player returns to their 'base'. While docked here, in addition to saving, the player can also elect to change their current ship type or equipment loadout; check their inventory of current equipment and cargo; trade stolen cargo for new equipment on the black market; and manufacture various types of munitions from recycled scrap. A final and highly important function of the base is to allow access to the player's email file, which is the main process to learn about new missions and plot developments. Ships [ ] When the game first starts, the player as the younger Cal is flying a Command Section or ComSec, a detachable mini-ship that is intended to be part of a larger vehicle and has minimal capabilities of its own. After the player docks at their base for the first time, they will gain access to the Storm Petrel, a lightly armed but very fast fighter craft which is easy to fly for new pilots. After crossing Caleb Maas and being sent to prison, the Petrel is lost, and the player now flies a Spider-class tug. Later in the campaign, the player will also be given access to the Tachyon-class patrol-combatant (PatCom) and the Devastator-class heavy corvette. These craft only become available after key, difficult missions and are much more powerful and capable than the tug ship. Upgrades [ ] There are a wide variety of upgrades available to the player. Some few are given in the form of stolen cargo pods or through mission rewards: most are gained on the black market through the base's trading interface. Upgrades can either add new features to the ship (like installing the Imaging Module, which lets the player zoom in their view dramatically), others simply improve the ship's performance (such as installed, which are not quite as powerful as standard thrusters but much more stealthy in use). Once gained, upgrades are permanently available to the player, though may be moved between ships as desired. Weaponry [ ] Weaponry in Edge of Chaos is modular. Each ship has some number of hardpoints available, and the player is left with the option of how to arm the ship from the available weapons in their inventory. Weapons are divided into three categories: • Primary weapons are various shell- and energy-based cannons which carry unlimited ammunition or great quantities of ammunition. Primary weapons are typically ineffective at long range. The player's primary weapons will automatically track the selected target within a small cone of the ship's forward facing: that is, the player does not need to manually line up their gun sights. Primary shots do not seek the target once they have left the weapon however. Some examples of primary weapons include: • Rapid-fire particle beam cannon (PBC). A slightly inaccurate but fast-firing energy weapon that can deliver an effective short-range burst. • Wide-arc PBC. This cannon can track your current target to a greater degree than others, meaning that you don't need to turn as far toward the target in order to open fire on them. • Gatling cannon. An extremely fast-firing weapon that delivers high damage, but the player must take care not to run out of ammunition, which can only be reloaded back at the base. • Sniper cannon. A long-range heavy weapon, fitted with a scope to help the user take down ships from great distances. • Cutting beam. An extremely powerful short range weapon which is difficult to use against small evasive targets, but can destroy larger ships with ease. • Secondary weapons are fitted into a ship's missile launchers, should the player elect to mount any. Secondary weapons typically offer a great deal of power at the expense of very limited ammunition. Secondaries offer a lot of flexibility and come in many families each of which has at least one actual type of ordnance: • Dogfighting missiles will aggressively seek the target you had when you launched the missile until they run out of fuel. These missiles can make multiple attempts at a single target, fly for long distances, and will continue to pursue even if you select another target. • Rockets do not seek a target, so are very difficult to aim in Edge of Chaos with its Newtonian physics. However you can fit far more rockets into a launcher than you can missiles, and rockets possess similar power and range. They are best for attacking very slow or stationary targets from long range. • Disruptors are guided missiles which do not cause any damage, rather, they disable the target briefly. This can take them out of the fight long enough for you to escape, or simply leave them open to other attacks. • Remote missiles are flown manually by the player after they are launched from the ship. The player also chooses when to detonate the missile. While they are large and difficult to use, they are exceptionally powerful and have a large blast radius. • Mines can be used to set up ambush points, with both proximity-detonated and self-guided mobile versions. • Special weapons are devices which offer some sort of attack capability but aren't cannons or launched ordnance: • Turret fighters can be added to the player's ship once they find these fighters. While docked to the ship, they function as port and starboard gun turrets to whom a target may be assigned to fire on. They can also be ordered to fire automatically at any hostiles within range. Optionally, the turret fighters may be undocked from the ship, in which case they become the player's wingmen and completely independent fighter craft. While more vulnerable in this state, they are also much more agile. • A Docking auto turret is a robotic light gun turret which can be added to the bottom of the player's ship, and automatically attacks enemies within its view. • An Anti-missile turret automatically shoots at missiles that are seeking the player's ship. • The Aggressor Shield allows vicious ramming attacks to be made, where the player will take far less damage than the target they have rammed. Timing is crucial, since the Aggressor Shield is only active for a few seconds. Independence Day (1996) Independence Day Blu-ray delivers stunning video and reference-quality audio in this exceptional Blu-ray release It is an ordinary summer day. But then, without warning, something very extraordinary happens. Enormous shadows fall across the land. Strange atmospheric phenomena, ominous and mesmerizing, surface around the globe. All eyes turn upward. The question of whether we're alone in the universe has finally been answered. And, in a matter of minutes, the lives of every person across the globe are forever changed. With the fate of our planet at stake, the Fourth of July is about to take on an entirely new meaning. No longer will it be an American holiday. It will be known as the day the entire world fought back. The day we did not go gentle into the good night. The day all of us on planet Earth celebrated our independence day. For more about Independence Day and the Independence Day Blu-ray release, see published by Martin Liebman on March 10, 2008 where this Blu-ray release scored 4.5 out of 5. Director: Writers:, Starring:,,,,, ». Independence Day Blu-ray Review One of the greatest popcorn flicks ever arrives in a spectacular Blu-ray package. Reviewed by, March 10, 2008 The question of whether or not we are alone in the universe has been answered. In the summer of 1996, audiences poured into theaters for a chance to see in Independence Day (or ID4) something like they'd never quite seen before, an alien invasion movie with all the bells and whistles of a high dollar summer popcorn sci-fi adventure, replete with state-of-the-art visual effects, ready to witness the total destruction of cities around the world and high-flying aerial battles between man and extraterrestrial as only Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich could create. Of course, these two are not world-renowned for making classy, high-art films, but rather some of the best, most enthralling popcorn flicks ever, including,, and. I was one of the millions of moviegoers at this one, and as the target demographic (teenage male), I left thoroughly impressed. Even though the film is severely flawed (I noted a few inconsistencies then and a boatload of them now), the movie just does its job, delivering edge-of-your-seat excitement, wit, well enough developed characters, and a 'wow' and 'cool' factor that, for me, remains second to none as far as big summer movies go. I've seen better since, but nothing, and I mean nothing, will ever duplicate the feeling I had seeing this one for this first time. You can kiss your planet goodbye. On July 2nd (presumably 1996), millions of Americans awoke to news I for one have been wanting to wake up to my entire life: aliens have arrived on Earth. At first, confusion reigns as television signals become spotty and intermittent, and only a handful of government officials and S.E.T.I. (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) workers really know what's happening. By the time alien craft are clearly seen entering Earth's atmosphere and settling over major world cities like New York, Washington, D.C, Los Angeles, Baghdad, and Moscow, panic has set in as people try to escape the phenomenon. Some embrace it, holding parties on rooftops, welcoming the visitors, while others fire their weapons at the crafts, against the wishes of local law enforcement who fear such activity may 'trigger an interstellar war.' Amidst the chaos, brainiac and environmentalist David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum, ) discovers an imbedded signal in our own satellite system, a countdown, he must assume, to our own annihilation. Luckily, his ex-wife Constance (Margaret Colin, ) works with the President of the United States, Thomas Whitmore (Bill Pullman, ), and Levinson is able to meet and convince the President that worldwide destruction is imminent. After barely escaping the destruction, the President orders a counterattack involving the remnants of the U.S. A complete failure and utter disaster, the day is lost and only one pilot, hotshot Steven Hiller (Will Smith, ), survives. He must work together with Levinson and Whitmore to discover the secret of the aliens and save Earth from total devastation. Replete with exciting visuals, a fast moving pace (even though the movie clocks in at well over two hours), and endless action, Independence Day brings out the kid in me, the kid who loved (and still does) Star Wars, space ships, laser guns, and military hardware. What nerd who grew up in the 1980s wouldn't love this stuff? I sure did, and I always will. Could this movie have been better? But then again, what would make it better for me would make it lousy for someone else, so why even think about messing with a good thing? Devlin and Emmerich have proven themselves, along with Blu-ray hero Michael Bay, to be the best in the business when it comes to making loud, exciting summer films, and ID4 ranks among the very best of the best. From the use of R.E.M.' S It's the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine) early in the picture to a stirring speech by the President near its end, the movie easily brings a smile to my face for the entire runtime of the picture. What could be better than that? It's my opinion that those that find looking over the numerous plot holes in this movie too difficult, choosing instead to heap on the criticism of this movie are completely missing the point. Films such as this one aren't meant to be highbrow art. Not everything can be (nor should it be) The Discrete Charm of the Bourgeoisie, The Seventh Seal, or even Alien. Sometimes, just accepting a movie for what it is rather than tearing it apart and missing out on all the fun just does a disservice to both audience and to the film. Taken as a big, ridiculous sci-fi/action extravaganza (which it is and doesn't even try to be anything else), Independence Day works like a charm. Sure, some of the plot holes are big enough for the aforementioned Godzilla to walk through, but who cares? The movie is fun, loud, entertaining, and appealing. Not everyone will see it the same way I do, and so be it. I hold no grudge against them, but I believe they're missing out on one of the all-time great popcorn movies. Presented in 1080p high definition and in its original aspect ratio of 2.35:1, Independence Day on Blu-ray sports a very good transfer, but one that also shows the film's age. While detailed and clean, the image isn't as sharp and distinct as I would have hoped, but that is not to say it's bad. Far from it, in fact, when you consider the film is now twelve years old, this is one heck of a good-looking catalogue title. Colors are vivid and natural, looking mostly realistic, regardless of the tint of the image on display. There are several very distinct lighting schemes seen throughout, and each holds up very well in high-definition. Be it the blue glow of the lights of the alien spacecraft, the harsh, bright sunlight of the Nevada desert, the dank interiors of the alien craft, the well-lit White House, or the fluorescent lighting of underground bunkers, the lighting scheme in each of these scenes brings a distinct visual flair to the picture and each appears graceful and true to their source. The level of detail is very good in this one. It fails to live up to some of the best I've seen on the format, but once again, taking the age of the movie into account, this one is darn good. Clarity and depth are solid, as are the black levels. Skin tones appear to be natural and pleasant, and the aliens look appropriately cold, slimy, and unrefined. Perhaps the only negative is that this Blu-ray rendition of the film is of such high quality that several effects shots that have always appeared questionable at best really stand out as über-fake here, notably a scene where Jasmine's dog jumps for safety at the last moment from a fire in a tunnel, or several shots of what is clearly a matte painting, such as a scene inside a hangar with Air Force One parked outside, courtesy of talented special effects wizards. All in all, this is easily the very best that this film has ever looked for the home theater market. I've owned this film on several formats, namely VHS, LaserDisc, and DVD, watched it well over a dozen times, and this edition simply blows them all out of the water. If you are a fan of this film in any way, shape, or form, this transfer is definitely worth an upgrade from any previous edition. Simply stated, Independence Day on Blu-ray is a deafening, high-powered listening experience. Anyone interested in what is perhaps the loudest, most powerful track yet on Blu- ray needs to stop reading and hurry out and buy this demo-worthy disc. Still not convinced? You will be after the opening moments of this DTS-HD MA 5.1 mix as bass literally rattles your chest, but cleanly and distinctly, never going for broke and simply sending a signal to the subwoofer to shake and rattle at will. Instead, we get powerful but clean bass, bass that will put the absolute best subwoofers and amplifiers to the test, and by the end of the movie, both will be screaming for mercy and kindly ask that you watch ten times in a row, as a way of taking some much needed R&R following the harrowing audio experience delivered by ID4. I wouldn't be surprised if home theater stores across the country and around the world pop in a copy of ID4 for the next several years when they demo subwoofers in their store. The bass is that boisterous, and even if you hate the movie but love a good dead-wakening soundtrack, this one's for you. Bass isn't the only thing this one has going for it. There is a major sound presence in the rear channels throughout, creating a captivating and completely engulfing experience. Music blends into the rears naturally, and effects, of course, zoom and whizz over your shoulder throughout, making for a head-turning and exciting listen. Every sound moves seamlessly from one speaker to the next for a top-flight aural experience, be it the sound of alien or human weaponry, the roar of human jets and the whoosh of alien craft, or long, drawn out explosions. Dialogue is crystal clear, rarely ever lost in the mayhem of the track, and even the subtleties of the track work to create a convincing and enthralling experience. There may be a few other tracks that sound a bit cleaner and more realistic than this one, but if you want a true high-definition, foundation shaking, heart-pounding, no-nonsense, rip-roaring good time of a soundtrack, Independence Day on Blu-ray fits the bill perfectly. Independence Day enters our atmosphere on Blu-ray with a decent helping of extra material. First up are two feature-length commentary tracks. The first features director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin. Their descriptive detailing of the on-screen action includes interesting background information. Plenty of other films are mentioned throughout the track, including how the film plays homage to Star Wars and similarities with Contact, and even stealing a set from Crimson Tide. The track is marred with some moments of dead air. Little tidbits like this abound, making for a very interesting and very watchable commentary, despite Emmerich's monotone voice. The second track features the visual effects supervisors, Volker Engel and Doug Smith. This is mostly a play-by-play of the effects, how they were created, and how they were implemented into the picture. A rather dull track, only hardcore fans with plenty of time on their hands will want to give this one a listen. Next up is an original game entitled Alien Scavenger Hunt. Users are prompted to find a dozen items throughout the film by placing them in the crosshairs with the remote and selecting them by pressing enter. Finding all twelve objects will yield an exclusive video clip. The twelve items players must find are listed at the bottom of the screen throughout the movie, and users can save their progress to continue. I'd term this more 'tedious' than 'fun,' and definitely not something I'd want to spend 2+ hours on. For comparison's sake, I found the 'D-File' feature on Disney's more appealing and worthwhile. Next up is the ID4 Datastream Trivia Track, your standard-fare pop-up track that runs over the length of the film. The text is a bit small but readable, offering up some nice tidbits about many aspects of the film. Three trailers and a teasers for ID4, and trailers for other Fox titles on Blu-ray, including,,,,, and are also provided. The disc also features a keyword search with literally hundreds of words in a list, arranged alphabetically, from 'Aerial Dogfight/Chase' to 'Wilder, Captain Jimmy.' Upon selecting one, we are able to view every scene these people, places, or events appear in. There is also a bookmark feature, allowing users to save their favorite scenes for immediate viewing later on. Finally, this disc is D-Box equipped for those who have this technology available to them. Replete with exciting but dated visual effects, witty banter amongst apocalypse survivors, finely choreographed aerial battles, cool looking aliens, and plenty of stand-up-and-cheer moments, ID4 is a film that'll get the heart racing, the blood pumping, and bring a smile to an awful lot of faces. Independence Day, as it was on LaserDisc and DVD, may very well be one of a select handful of discs worthy of being the quintessential, go-to, 'show off your system' disc. No, it doesn't offer the very best in high definition, but it comes close. The advantage to using a movie such as this is the widespread appeal and knowledge of the film. I'm pretty sure everyone and their dog has seen this movie, and probably more than once for many. I've personally seen it theatrically, on VHS, LaserDisc, DVD, television, and now Blu-ray. The movie is loads of fun, even if it's jaw-droppingly ridiculous at times, but that's OK. It's the epitome of the feel good popcorn movie, and it remains one of my favorites. For this Blu-ray edition, the movie isn't the only thing that will send shivers up and down your spine. The video quality looks great for a film of this age, even though the super high quality shows all the warts and outdated visual effects. The sound is ridiculously loud and powerful, a perfect way to rattle the foundation of the house, wake the neighbors, and bring a huge smile to the face of any home theater owner. A decent amount of supplements round out a strong package, and Independence Day is, in my opinion, a must-own disc for any serious Blu-ray or home theater enthusiast. Very highly recommended!

Here you can see the wrong account has been selected in the Bank Account for Electronic Payments field (in this case a main bank account has been incorrectly chosen). This needs to be set to the bank account you use for. Use toolbars in addition to or in place of menu bars. Toolbars can be more efficient than menu bars because they are direct (always displayed instead of being displayed on mouse click), immediate (instead of requiring additional input) and contain the most frequently used commands (instead of a comprehensive list). In contrast to menu bars, toolbars don't have to be comprehensive or self-explanatory—just quick, convenient, and efficient. Some toolbars are customizable, allowing users to add or remove toolbars, change their size and location, and even change their contents. Some types of toolbars can be undocked, resulting in a palette window. For more information about toolbar varieties, see in this article. Is this the right user interface? To decide, consider these questions: • Is the window a primary window? Toolbars work well for primary windows, but are usually overwhelming for secondary windows. For secondary windows, use,, and instead. • Are there a small number of frequently used commands? Toolbars can't handle as many commands as menu bars, so they work best as a way to efficiently access a small number of frequently used commands. • Are most of the commands immediate? That is, are they mostly commands that don't require additional input? To be efficient, toolbars need to have a direct and immediate feel. The IDE's main form should be empty and the toolbar buttons filled with their colors (meaning you are connected to the NXT). You can usually do every operation in three equivalent ways: using a keyboard shortcut, a menu item, or a toolbar button. You can create a new file in many ways: you can press Ctrl+N, you can. For the unlabeled icons toolbar pattern, remove entire toolbars if they don't apply to the current context. Display them only in the applicable modes. Cool Toolbar Icons is an extensive set of icons for modern applications. Bring your projects to life and give them the professional look using these colorful. If not, menu bars are better suited for commands that require additional input. • Can most of the commands be presented directly? That is, users interact with them using a single click? While some commands can be presented using menu buttons, presenting most commands this way undermines the efficiency of the toolbar, making a menu bar a better choice. • Are the commands well represented by icons? Toolbar buttons are usually represented by icons instead of text labels (although some toolbar buttons use both), whereas menu commands are represented by their text. If the command icons aren't high quality and aren't self-explanatory, a menu bar may be a better choice. If your program has a toolbar without a menu bar, and most of the commands are accessible indirectly through menu buttons and, this toolbar is essentially a menu bar. Apply the pattern in the Menus guidelines instead. Design concepts A good menu bar is a comprehensive catalog of all the available top-level commands, whereas a good toolbar gives quick, convenient access to frequently used commands. A toolbar doesn't attempt to train users—just make them productive. Once users learn how to access a command on a toolbar, they rarely continue to access the command from the menu bar. For these reasons, a program's menu bar and its toolbar don't need to correspond directly. Menu bars Traditionally, toolbars are different from menu bars in the following ways: • Frequency. Toolbars present only the most frequently used commands, whereas menu bars catalog all the available top-level commands within a program. Clicking a toolbar command takes effect immediately, whereas a menu command might require additional input. For example, a Print command in a menu bar first displays the Print dialog, whereas a Print toolbar button immediately prints a single copy of a document to the default printer. In this example, clicking the Print toolbar button immediately prints a single copy of a document to the default printer. • Directness. Toolbar commands are invoked with a single click, whereas menu bar commands require navigating through the menu. • Number and density. The screen space required by a toolbar is proportional to the number of its commands and that space is always used, even if the commands are not. Consequently, toolbars must use their space efficiently. By contrast, menu bar commands are normally hidden from view and their hierarchical structure allows for any number of commands. • Size and presentation. To pack many commands in a small space, toolbars usually use icon-based commands (with tooltip-based labels), whereas menu bars use text-based commands (with optional icons). While toolbar buttons can have standard text labels, these do use significantly more space. Labeled toolbar buttons take at least three times as much space as unlabeled ones. • Self-explanatory. Well-designed toolbars need icons that are mostly self-explanatory because users can't find commands efficiently just using tooltips. However, toolbars still work well if a few less frequently used commands aren't self-explanatory. In this example, the most frequently used icons are self-explanatory. • Recognizable and distinguishable. For frequently used commands, users remember toolbar button attributes like location, shape, and color. With well-designed toolbars, users can find the commands quickly even if they don't remember the exact icon symbol. By contrast, users remember frequently used menu bar command locations, but rely on the command labels for making selections. For toolbar commands, distinctive location, shape, and color help make icons recognizable and distinguishable. For menu bar commands, users ultimately depend upon their labels. Efficiency Given their characteristics, toolbars must be designed primarily for efficiency. An inefficient toolbar just doesn't make any sense. If you do only one thing. Make sure your toolbars are designed primarily for efficiency. Focus toolbars on commands that are frequently used, immediate, direct, and quickly recognizable. Hiding menu bars Generally, toolbars work great together with menu bars: good toolbars provide efficiency and good menu bars provide comprehensiveness. Having both menu bars and toolbars allows each to focus on its strengths without compromise. Surprisingly, this model breaks down with simple programs. For programs with only a few commands, having both a menu bar and a toolbar doesn't make sense because the menu bar ends up being a redundant, inefficient version of the toolbar. To eliminate this redundancy, many simple programs in Windows Vista focus on providing commands solely through the toolbar, and hiding the menu bar by default. Such programs include Windows Explorer, Windows Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, and Windows Photo Gallery. This is no small change. Removing the menu bar fundamentally changes the nature of toolbars because such toolbars need to be comprehensive and change in the following ways: • Frequency. Removing the menu bar means that all commands not available directly from a window or its context menus must be accessible from the toolbar, regardless of their frequency of use. Removing the menu bar makes the toolbar the only visible access point for commands, requiring the toolbar to have the fully functional versions. For example, if there is no menu bar, a Print command on a toolbar must display the Print dialog box instead of printing immediately. (Although using a split button is an excellent compromise in this case. See for the standard Print split button.) In this example, the Print toolbar button in Windows Photo Gallery has a Print command that displays the Print dialog box. • Directness. To save space and prevent clutter, less frequently used commands may be moved to menu buttons, making them less direct. Toolbars used to supplement a menu bar are designed differently than toolbars designed for use with a removed or hidden menu bar. And because you can't assume that users will display a hidden menu bar to perform a single command, hiding a menu bar should be treated the same as removing it completely when making design decisions. (If you hide the menu bar by default, don't assume that users will think of displaying the menu bar to find a command or even figure out how to display it.) Designing a toolbar to work without a menu bar often involves some compromises. But for efficiency, don't compromise too much. If hiding the menu bar results in an inefficient toolbar, don't hide the menu bar! Keyboard accessibility From the keyboard, accessing toolbars is quite different from accessing menu bars. Menu bars receive input focus when users press the Alt key and they lose input focus with the Esc key. Once a menu bar has input focus, it is navigated independently of the remainder of the window, handling all arrow keys, Home, End, and Tab keys. By contrast, toolbars receive input focus when users press the Tab key through the entire contents of the window. Because toolbars are last in tab order, they might take some significant effort to activate on a busy page (unless users know to use Shift+Tab to move backwards). Accessibility presents a dilemma here: while toolbars are easier for mouse users, they are less accessible for keyboard users. This isn't a problem if there is both a menu bar and a toolbar, but it is if the menu bar is removed or hidden. For accessibility reasons, then, prefer to retain the menu bar rather than remove it completely in favor of a toolbar. If you must choose between removing the menu bar and simply hiding it, prefer to hide it. Usage patterns Toolbars have several usage patterns: Primary toolbars A toolbar designed to work without a menu bar, either hidden or removed. Primary toolbars must balance the need for efficiency with comprehensiveness, so they work best for simple programs. A primary toolbar from Windows Explorer. Supplemental toolbars A toolbar designed to work with a menu bar. Supplemental toolbars can focus on efficiency without compromise. A supplemental toolbar from Windows Movie Maker. Toolbar menus A menu bar implemented as a toolbar. Toolbar menus are toolbars consisting primarily of commands in and split buttons, with only a few direct commands, if any. A toolbar menu in Windows Photo Gallery. Customizable toolbars A toolbar that can be customized by users. Customizable toolbars allow users to add or remove toolbars, change their size and location, and even change their contents. A customizable toolbar from Microsoft Visual Studio. Palette windows A modeless dialog box that presents an array of commands. Palette windows are undocked toolbars. Palette windows from Windows Paint. Toolbars have these styles: Unlabeled icons One or more rows of small unlabeled icon buttons. Use this style if there are too many buttons to label or the program is frequently used. With this style, programs with complex functionality can have multiple rows, and therefore, this is the only style that needs to be customizable. With this style, some command buttons can be labeled if they are frequently used. An unlabeled icons toolbar from WordPad. Large unlabeled icons A single row of large unlabeled icon buttons. Use this style for simple utilities that have easily recognizable icons and are usually run in small windows. Large unlabeled icons toolbars from Windows Live Messenger and the Windows Snipping Tool. Labeled icons A single row of small labeled icons. Use this style if there are few commands or the program isn't frequently used. This style always has a single row. A labeled icons toolbar from Windows Explorer. Partial toolbars A partial row of small icons used to save space when a full toolbar isn't necessary. Use this style for windows with navigation buttons, a search box, or tabs to eliminate unnecessary weight at the top of the window. Partial toolbars can be combined with navigation buttons, a search box, or tabs. Large partial toolbars A partial row of large icons used to save space when a full toolbar isn't necessary. Use this style for simple utilities that have navigation buttons or a search box to eliminate unnecessary weight at the top of the window. A large partial toolbar from Windows Defender. Finally, toolbar controls have several usage patterns: Command icon buttons Clicking a command button initiates an immediate action. Examples of icon command buttons from Windows Fax and Scan. Mode icon buttons Clicking a mode button enters the selected mode. Examples of mode buttons from Windows Paint. Property icon buttons A property button's state reflects the state of the currently selected objects, if any. Clicking the button applies the change to the selected objects. Examples of property buttons from Microsoft Word. Labeled icon buttons A command button or property button labeled with an icon and a text label. These buttons are used for frequently used toolbar buttons whose icon isn't sufficiently self-explanatory. They are also used in toolbars that have so few buttons that each button can have a text label. A toolbar with its most frequently used buttons labeled. Menu buttons A command button used to present a small set of related commands. A single downward-pointing triangle indicates that clicking the button shows a menu. A menu button with a small set of related commands. Split buttons A command button used to consolidate variations of a command, especially when one of the commands is used most of the time. A split button in its normal state. Like a menu button, a single downward-pointing triangle indicates that clicking the rightmost portion of the button shows a menu. A dropped down split button. In this example, a split button is used to consolidate all the print-related commands. The immediate Print command is used most of the time, so users normally don't need to see the other commands. Unlike a menu button, clicking the left portion of the button performs the action on the label directly. Split buttons are effective in situations where the next command is likely to be the same as the last command. In this case, the label is changed to the last command, as with a color picker: In this example, the label is changed to the last command. Drop-down lists A drop-down list (editable or read-only) used to view or change a property. In this example, drop-down lists are used to view and set font attributes. A drop-down list in a toolbar reflects the state of the currently selected object, if any. Changing the list changes the selected object's state. Guidelines Presentation • Choose a suitable toolbar style based on the number of commands and their usage. See the previous toolbar style table for guidance on how to choose. Avoid using a toolbar configuration that takes too much space from the program work area. • Place toolbars just above the content area, below the menu bar and address bar, if present. • If space is at a premium, save space by: • Omitting the labels of well-known icons and less frequently used commands. • Using only a partial toolbar instead of the entire window width. • Consolidating related commands with a menu button or split button. • Using an to reveal less frequently used commands. • Displaying commands only when they apply to the current context. The Windows Internet Explorer toolbar saves space by omitting labels of well-known icons, using a partial toolbar, and using an overflow chevron for less frequently used commands. • For the unlabeled icons toolbar pattern, use a default configuration with no more than two rows of toolbars. If more than two rows might be useful, make the toolbars customizable. Starting with more than two rows can overwhelm users and take too much space from the program work area. Incorrect: A default configuration with more than two rows of toolbars results in too much visual clutter. • Disable individual toolbar buttons that don't apply to the current context, instead of removing them. Doing so makes toolbar contents stable and easier to find. • Disable individual toolbar buttons if clicking on them would directly result in an error. Doing so is necessary to maintain a direct feel. • For the unlabeled icons toolbar pattern, remove entire toolbars if they don't apply to the current context. Display them only in the applicable modes. In this example, the Debug toolbar is shown only when the program is being run. • Display toolbar buttons left aligned. The Help icon, if present, is right aligned. All toolbar buttons are left aligned except for Help. Exception: Windows 7-style toolbars left align program specific commands, but right align standard, well-known commands such as Options, View, and Help. • Don't change toolbar button labels dynamically. Doing so is confusing and unexpected. However, you can change the icon to reflect the current state. In this example, the icon is changed to indicate the default command. Controls and commands • Prefer the most frequently used commands. • For primary toolbars, provide comprehensive commands. Primary toolbars don't have to be as comprehensive as menu bars, but they have to provide all the commands that aren't readily discoverable elsewhere. Primary toolbars don't need to have commands for: • Commands that are directly on the UI itself. • Commands typically accessed through context menus. • Standard, well-known commands like Cut, Copy, and Paste. • For supplemental toolbars, provide commands that are used the most frequently. Menu bar commands are a superset of the toolbar commands, so you don't have to provide everything. Focus on quick, convenient command access and skip the rest. • Prefer direct controls. Use toolbar buttons in the following order of preference: • Icon button. Direct and takes minimal space. • Labeled icon button. Direct, but takes more space. • Split button. Direct for the most common command, but handles command variations. • Menu button. Indirect, but presents many commands. • Prefer immediate commands. For commands that can either be immediate or have additional input for flexibility: • For primary toolbars, use the flexible versions of commands, (such as Print.). • For supplemental toolbars, use the immediate versions in the toolbar (such as Print) and use flexible versions in the menu bar (such as Print.). • Provide labels for frequently used commands, especially if their icons aren't well-known icons. Acceptable: Better: The Windows Fax and Scan toolbar has few commands, so the better version labels the most important ones. • Don't put commands in toolbar menus that are also directly on the toolbar. Incorrect: In this example, Print is directly on the toolbar, so it doesn't need to be in the menu. Organization and order • Organize the commands within a toolbar into related groups. • Place the most frequently used groups first. Within a group, put the commands in their logical order. Overall, the commands should have a logical flow to make them easy to find, while still having the most frequently used commands appear first. Doing so is most efficient, especially if there is overflow. • Use group dividers only if the commands across groups are weakly coupled. Doing so makes the groupings obvious and the commands easier to find. Examples of grouped toolbars from Windows Mail. • Avoid placing destructive commands next to frequently used commands. Use either order or grouping to get separation. Also, consider not placing destructive commands in the toolbar, but only in the menu bar or context menus instead. Acceptable: Better: In the better example, the Delete command is physically separated from Print. • Use the overflow chevron to indicate that not all commands can be displayed. But use overflow only if there isn't sufficient room to display all the commands. Incorrect: The overflow chevron indicates that not all commands are displayed, but more of them could be with a better layout. • Make sure that the most frequently used commands are directly accessible from the toolbar (that is, not in overflow) in small window sizes. If necessary, reorder the commands, move less frequently used commands to menu buttons or split buttons, or even remove them completely from the toolbar. If this remains a problem, reconsider your choice of toolbar style. Hiding menu bars Generally, toolbars work great together with menu bars because having both allows each to focus on their strengths without compromise. • Hide the menu bar by default if your toolbar design makes having a menu bar redundant. • Hide the menu bar instead of removing it completely, because menu bars are more accessible for keyboard users. • To restore the menu bar, provide a Menu bar checkmark option in the View (for primary toolbars) or Tools (for secondary toolbars) menu category. For more information, see. • Display the menu bar when users press the Alt key, and set input focus on the first menu category. Interaction • On hover, display the button to indicate that the icon is clickable. After the tooltip timeout, display the tooltip or infotip. This example shows the various display states. • On left single-click: • For command buttons, interact with the control as normal. • For mode buttons, display the control to reflect the currently selected mode. If the mode affects the behavior of mouse interaction, also change the pointer. In this example, the pointer is changed to show the mouse interaction mode. • For property buttons and drop-down lists, display the control to reflect the state of the currently selected objects, if any. On interaction, update the control's state and apply the change to the selected objects. If nothing is selected, do nothing. • On left double-click, perform the same action as a left single-click. • Exception: On rare occasions, a toolbar command can be used more efficiently modally. In such cases, use double-click to toggle the mode. In this example, double-clicking the Format painter command enters a mode where all subsequent clicks apply the format. Users can leave the mode by left single-clicking. • On right-click: • For customizable toolbars, display the context menu for customizing the toolbar. Display the menu on right-click on mouse down, not mouse up. • For other toolbars, do nothing. Icons • Provide icons for all toolbar controls except drop-down lists. Drop-down lists don't need icons, but all other toolbar controls do. Exception: Windows 7-style toolbars use icons only for commands whose icons are well known; otherwise they use text labels without icons. Doing so improves the clarity of the labels, but requires more space. • Make sure toolbar icons are clearly visible against the toolbar background color. Always evaluate toolbar icons in context and in high-contrast mode. • Choose icon designs that clearly communicate their purpose, especially for the most frequently used commands. Well-designed toolbars need icons that are self-explanatory because users can't find commands efficiently using their tooltips. However, toolbars still work well if icons for a few less frequently used commands aren't self-explanatory. • Choose icons that are recognizable and distinguishable, especially for the most frequently used commands. Make sure the icons have distinctive shapes and colors. Doing so helps users find the commands quickly even if they don't remember the icon symbol. • Make sure toolbar icons conform to the Aero-style icon guidelines. For more information and examples, see. Standard menu and split buttons If you are using menu buttons and split buttons in a toolbar, try to use the following standard menu structures and their relevant commands whenever possible. Unlike menu bars, toolbar commands don't take access keys. Primary toolbars These commands mirror the commands found in standard menu bars, so they should be used only for primary toolbars. This list shows the button labels (and type) with their order and separators, shortcut keys, and ellipses. Note that the command for displaying and hiding the menu bar is in the View menu. This list shows the button labels (and type) with their order and separators, shortcut keys, and ellipses. Note that the command for displaying and hiding the menu bar is in the Tools menu. The supplemental toolbar category names differ from the standard menu category names because they need to be more encompassing. For example, the Organize category is used instead of Edit because it contains commands that aren't related to editing. To maintain consistency between menu bars and toolbars, use the standard menu category names if doing so wouldn't be misleading. Incorrect: In this example, the toolbar should use Edit instead of Organize for consistency because it has the standard Edit menu commands. Palette windows • Palette windows use shorter title bars to minimize their screen space. Put a Close button on the title bar. • Set the title bar text to the command that displayed the palette window. • Use sentence-style capitalization without ending punctuation. • Provide a context menu for window management commands. Display this context menu when users right-click on the title bar. In this example, users can right-click on the title bar to display the context menu. • When possible and useful, make palette windows resizable. Indicate that the window is resizable, using resize pointers when over the window frame. • When a palette window is redisplayed, display it using the same state as last accessed. When closing, save the window size and location. When redisplaying, restore the saved window size and location. Also, consider making these attributes persistent across program instances on a per user basis. Customization • Provide customization for toolbars consisting of two or more rows. Only the unlabeled icons style needs customization. Simple toolbars with few commands don't need customization. • Provide a good default configuration. Users shouldn't have to customize their toolbars for common scenarios. Don't depend upon users customizing their way out of a bad initial configuration. Assume that most users won't customize their toolbars. • Provide a context menu with the following commands: • A check box list to display the available toolbars • Lock/Unlock toolbars • Customize. • Lock customizable toolbars by default, to prevent accidental changes. • For the Customize command, display an options dialog box that provides the ability to choose which toolbars are displayed and the commands on each toolbar. In this example, Visual Studio provides an options dialog box to customize its toolbars. • Provide a Reset command to return to the original toolbar configuration in the Customize options dialog box. • Provide the ability to customize the toolbars using drag-and-drop in the following ways: • Set toolbar order and positions. • Set toolbar lengths, displaying any toolbars that are too small to display their contents with an overflow chevron. • If supported, undock toolbars to become palette windows and vice versa. When the Customize options dialog box is displayed: • Set the toolbar contents. • Set the order of the toolbar contents. Doing so allows users to make changes more directly and efficiently. • Save all toolbar customizations, on a per-user basis. Using ellipses While toolbar commands are used for immediate actions, sometimes more information is needed to perform the action. Use an ellipsis to indicate that a command requires more information before it can take effect. Put the ellipsis at the end of the tooltip and label, if there is one. In this example, the Print. Command displays a Print dialog box to gather more information. If a command cannot take effect immediately, however, no ellipsis is required. So, for example, sharing settings doesn't have an ellipsis even though it needs additional information, because the command can't possibly take effect immediately. The Sharing Settings command doesn't have an ellipsis because it can't take effect immediately. Because toolbars are constantly displayed, and space is at a premium, ellipses should be used infrequently. Recommended sizing and spacing Recommended sizing and spacing for standard toolbars. Labels General • Use sentence-style capitalization. • Exception: For legacy applications, you may use title-style capitalization if necessary to avoid mixing capitalization styles. Unlabeled icon buttons • Use a tooltip to label the command. For the tooltip text, use what the label would be if the button were labeled, but include the shortcut key if there is one. An example of an icon button tooltip. Labeled icon buttons • Use a concise label. Use a single word if possible, four words maximum. • Place the label to the right of the icon. • Use an infotip to describe the command. Because the buttons are labeled, using a tooltip instead of an infotip would be redundant. An example of a labeled icon button infotip. Drop-down lists • If the list always has a value, use the current value as the label. In this example, the currently selected font name acts as the label. • If an editable drop-down list doesn't have a value, use a. In this example, a prompt is used for the drop-down list's label. Menu buttons and split buttons • Prefer verb-based menu button names. However, omit the verb if it is Create, Show, View, or Manage. For example, Tools and Page menu buttons don't have verbs. • Use a single, specific word that clearly and accurately describes the menu contents. While the names don't have to be so general that they describe everything in the menu, they should be predictable enough so that users aren't surprised by what they find in the menu. • While not required, provide infotip descriptions if they are helpful. Menu items • Use menu item names that start with a verb, noun, or noun phrase. • Prefer verb-based menu names. However, omit the verb if it is Create, Show, View, or Manage. For example, the following commands don't use verbs: • About • Advanced • Full screen • New • Options • Properties • Use specific verbs. Avoid generic, unhelpful verbs, such as Change and Manage. • Use singular nouns for commands that apply to a single object, otherwise use plural nouns. • For pairs of complementary commands, choose clearly complementary names. Examples: Add, Remove; Show, Hide; Insert, Delete. • Choose menu item names based on user goals and tasks, not on technology. • Use the following menu item names for the stated purpose: • Options: To display program options. • Customize: To display the program options specifically related to mechanical UI configuration. • Personalize: To display a summary of commonly used settings. • Preferences: Don't use. Use Options instead. • Properties: To display an object's property window. • Settings: Don't use as a menu label. Use Options instead. • Menu items that display submenus never have an ellipsis on their label. The submenu arrow indicates that another selection is required. Documentation When referring to toolbars: • If there is only one toolbar, refer to it as the toolbar. • If there are multiple toolbars, refer to them by name, followed by the word toolbar. Refer to the main toolbar that is on by default and contains buttons for basic tasks, such as opening and printing a file, as the standard toolbar. • Toolbar is a single, uncapitalized word. (By contrast, menu bar is two words.) • Refer to toolbar buttons by their tooltip labels. Use the exact label text, including its capitalization, but don't include any ellipsis. • Refer to toolbar menu buttons by their labels and the word menu. Use the exact label text, including its capitalization. • Refer to toolbar controls generally as toolbar buttons. • To describe user interaction, use click for toolbar buttons and read-only drop-down lists, and enter for editable drop-down lists. Don't use choose, select, or pick. • Don't use cascading, pull-down, drop-down, or pop-up to describe menu buttons, except in programming documentation. • Refer to unavailable items as unavailable, not as dimmed, disabled, or grayed. Use disabled in programming documentation. • When possible, format the labels using bold text. Otherwise, put the labels in quotation marks only if required to prevent confusion. Examples: • On the Page menu on the toolbar, click Send page by e-mail. • In the Fonts box on the toolbar, enter 'Segoe UI.' • On the Formatting toolbar, point to Show, and then click Comments. • 20 Stock Icon Sets • 25,559 pixel-perfect, ready-to-use, royalty-free icons • 48x48, 32x32, 24x24, 16x16 RGB with alpha channel, RGB • 96 PPI compatible with WPF, Silverlight, MFC, VB. • Normal, Hot, Disabled states • PNG, ICO, BMP file formats • Many derivatives & overlays • Description of the icon set Axialis Ribbon & Toolbar icon set is designed for use in ribbons & toolbars of Windows applications. This year, however, he doesn't don the cap of the director but offers quite a promising film in the form of Starring -fame National Award-winning actress Zaira Wasim, the film revolves around a singer who is an internet sensation but with a hidden identity. Music plays a pivotal role in the film. While Wasim has won a lot of appreciation for her performance in the film, her voice (playback) — Meghna Mishra — has also garnered a lot of attention. In an exclusive interview with Firstpost, the 15-year-old singer from Mumbai spoke about her life, her advent into the music industry and her plans in the future. Mishra was born and raised in Mumbai, and although she originally hails from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, she calls Mumbai her home. Born to Sanjay Kumar Mishra, who is a Hindustani classical music teacher, and Aarti Mishra, a tabla player and kathak dancer, Mishra has always been around a musical environment since her childhood. She has been taking vocal lessons from her father. 'It is always musical. There are students who come at my place and learn music from my dad. ![]() I live in a musical world. I have been singing since childhood. But I started music regularly when I was ten or eleven. My dad trains me,' says Mishra. ![]() ![]() Meghna Mishra. Mishra is an ardent fan of old Bollywood songs and considers Lata Mangeshkar a major influence. Speaking about her choice of songs, Mishra says, 'There are many old songs that are based on Indian classical music; they come under the genre of semi-classical music, which are finished songs. If I learn old songs, I only learn filmy classical. I listen to Lataji, Ashaji. All the old singers. That generation's music was so cultural and there was a classical touch in the compositions.' ![]() Check out launch footage from the European Space Agency's 78th Ariane 5 rocket launch from the Guiana Space Centre. Wind down each evening with a romantic mix of R&B, slow-jam and soul. On the weekends, join us for family-friendly shows featuring the music of Broadway,. Jul 08, 2014 almost 7 years ago MTV launched into the music discovery space today with the unveiling of its MTV Music Meter, which provides music lovers with news and. Her favourite Lata songs include: (in random order) ' Man Mohana' ( Seema [1955]), 'Kaise Din Beetey' ( Anuradha [1960]), 'Megha Chhaye Aadhi Raat' ( Sharmilee [1971]), 'Ja Ja Re Balamwa' ( Basant Bahaar [1956]), 'Lag Jaa Gale' ( Woh Kaun Thi [1964]). Many wouldn't know that Secret Superstar isn't Mishra's debut in playback singing. She had sung two songs in the 2014 Marathi film Vitti Dandu. And it is how the journey of her newly-found fame germinated. 'The music director of the film Santosh Mulekar is a family friend. One day we were sitting in the hall at my place. My mom received a call from Santosh uncle and he asked her how old I was. My mom said that I was 15 running. To that he informed that we would receive a call from a certain lady, which we did. That lady asked me to send her two songs — both in raw formats. I sent her a song and a YouTube link of a western song that I had uploaded sometime back then. Then after sometime, she sent me an address. I, along with my dad, upon reaching that address, entered a studio and we were asked to sit in the waiting room.' 'We were then called inside and we met a person who gave me a writing pad, a page and I filled it. I didn't even look what it was. Then the man asked someone, 'Sir ko bulao.' One or two minutes later Amit [Trivedi] Sir entered. I didn't recognise him at first, but I could feel I had seen him somewhere; he resembled someone. He then said, 'We have chosen you as a singer for an Aamir Khan Production film.' I was so confused; that was my first reaction. I took the paper that I had filled and looked at it and then I realised that 'Oh my God! I just signed the contract of Secret Superstar,' she exclaims. How does it feel like to be a playback singer in Bollywood? 'Whenever I think about the fact that I have sung for an Aamir Khan film, I still don't believe it. It's more like a dream come true. There was a time when we doubted the whole thing because the teaser released after a long time; it released in December. But once the teaser was out, we were assured. I have sung five out of eight songs in the album.' 'It is a special feeling for me and my family, as I am the first one in my family who has sung in a Bollywood film. I feel I am so lucky that I got selected for this, because if nobody had heard me sing at the first place I would not have sung in the film. I will always be grateful to Amit Sir, Aamir Sir for this,' says an ecstatic Mishra. The makers of Secret Superstar had called Mishra to Panchgani for ten days while they were shooting the film there. And that is where most of the compositions were made, and the final recordings were done in a Mumbai studio. 'Amit sir used to teach me the songs in the morning; I would learn them and practice them all day; and later in the evening we would record it. Amit sir had a small recording set up in his room. After recording the song, he would mix it and make Aamir Sir listen to the composition,' she says. One of the major highlights of the film is the resemblance of Mishra's voice to Zaira Wasim's vocal texture. Talking about that Mishra candidly says, 'Some people asked how Zaira sings so beautifully; later they realised that somebody else has sung them.' Initially she wasn't sure whether her voice would work for Wasim or not, because when Mishra met Wasim, Dangal had not released. She adds, 'I had met Zaira much before Dangal's trailer release. It was around September-October when I was called for the shooting of Secret Superstar. Aamir sir wanted me to guide her with expressions, hand movements, standing postures, etc. I rehearsed with her five six times and she used to follow me and observe keenly. I didn't even know that she was the heroine. She is so cute and beautiful; I wasn't even sure that my voice would suit her.' Meghna Mishra along with Aamir Khan during Secret Superstar music launch (left); Zaira Wasim in Secret Superstar. Picture courtesy: Facebook Mishra specifically mentions Wasim's acting proficiency, which is another remarkable highlight of the film and Wasim has been receiving rave reviews for her performance. Mishra adds, 'Zaira is very talented. She observed some of the most minute things and implemented them in her scenes. She would ask me to sing and then would observe how I stand; second time she would notice where I was shutting my eyes; then she would also notice where and when I took breaths and she implemented all of that. That is really a difficult thing, but she did everything and delivered the final output and you can see the result.' And now, after Secret Superstar, Mishra hopes for some good projects to come in, and adds, 'I wish that all my projects are pure — just like Secret Superstar — all the songs, all the lyrics are so good.'
